The Ambassador
The Ambassador is the head of the diplomatic mission. He represents the President of the Republic of France, the French government and therefore all its ministries. He is also accredited to Lesotho.

The Political section consists of the First Counsellor, two counsellors and two secretaries who focus on domestic affairs and South Africa’s international relations and bilateral relations between France and South Africa.
The Cooperation and Cultural Action Department, headed by a counsellor, includes five sectors, each under the responsibility of an attaché: Culture, French Language, Media, Governance and S&T.
The Defence Attaché Section consists of a team of two senior officers and two senior non-commissioned officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force. It also takes on civilian or military interns on an ad-hoc basis. It has also a regional responsibility as the Defence Attaché Office in Pretoria covers also the defence relations with Malawi, Mozambique, Kindom of Lesotho and Kingdom of Swaziland.
The Economic department of the French embassy in South Africa is in charge of all economic, financial and trade relations between France and South Africa. It covers all other Southern African countries : Angola (with a resident office in Luanda), Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique (with a resident office in Maputo), Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The Police and Security Department
The Police and Security Department consists of the Internal Security Attaché, a Divisional Commissioner from the National Police, assisted by the Deputy Internal Security Attaché, a senior officer in the Gendarmerie.
