The 2009 Absa l’Atelier prize was awarded to Stephen Rosin for his multimedia work entitled ’The devil makes his Christmas pie from politicians’ tongues and bankers’ fingers’. The Gerard Sekoto prize for the most promising artist was won by Nyaniso Lindi for his linocut called ’Tribute to Noria Mabasa’.

The Absa l’Atelier award includes a sojourn in Paris to study at the Cité Internationale des Arts for 6 months, as well as R110 000 pocket money, accommodation and free access to galleries and museums in Paris, courtesy of Absa bank.

The Gerard Sekoto award - sponsored by the French Embassy, the French Institute and the Alliance Française - will give Lindi the chance to spend 3 months at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, including accommodation and free access to galleries and museums.
