A joint office for CNRS, IRD and CIRAD
In 2011, the IRD representation in Southern Africa was merged with the CNRS office, and the new joint office moved to Pretoria, near the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
The joint IRD-CNRS representative is now responsible for Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Additionally, he has been appointed as focal point of CIRAD in South-Africa. This high level of coordination between three major French research organizations contributes to make French research in South Africa more visible and more influent, both in South and Southern Africa.
Coordinated by the joint office, a Framework Agreement for Scientific Cooperation could be signed by IRD, CNRS, Cirad and the National Research foundation (NRF ) at the Residence of the French ambassador on the 27th of November 2015. According to the signed agreement, the three French research organizations define with one voice their key research priorities with the NRF, under the aegis of the French Embassy.
