AFD signs loan agreement with City of Johannesburg [fr]
The French Development Agency’s (AFD) CEO, Anne Paugman, visited South Africa from 11 to 13 May 2015.
During her visit, she signed a 120 M€ loan agreement with the City of Johannesburg to support its capital investment budget. This support will have a very strong focus on the spatial transformation of the City and its Corridors of Freedom, transport axes along which urban projects will be developed to encourage social diversity (private and social housing, offices and leisure centres). These projects aim at simultaneously improving the life of the poorest population, increasing economic efficiency and lowering the city’s carbon print.
The loan is coupled with an ambitious technical cooperation programme where French expertise on sustainable development will be valued. Agreements have been signed with the City of Paris, Lille Métropole, the French Institute of Urban Morphology or C40.
The first results from this cooperation will be presented during the COP21 in Paris in December 2015.
With this project, AFD confirms its position as a leading DFI on the municipal sector in South Africa.
