Ambassador Barbier marks women’s day in South Africa
On Tuesday 7 July, the Ambassador Elisabeth Barbier organized a lunch at the Residence of France to celebrate Women’s Day. She invited a dozen of South African promising and successful women from different background and area of specialty such as politics, arts and culture, business or activism.
The guests and the Ambassador shared view on the situation of women worldwide and particularly in South Africa, focusing on major issues undermining gender equality such as domestic and sexual violence, gendered clichés and discriminations. Education was pointed as a major tool to improve the situation of girls and women, offering them opportunities and preventing violence. The role of the media to discuss gendered clichés and educate the youth was also highlighted.
