Ambassador Barbier meets the French graffiti artist Jace

The Alliance Française in Cape Town, in collaboration with the association Langa Quarter and the gallery Caroline Smulder from Paris supported the cultural and artistic event ULTRA (Uplifting Langa Through Reachable Art).

ULTRA is an annual festival about urban art. This year was the second edition of the event and took place in Langa, a township in Cape Town. The aim of the event was to group together local communities around a graffiti competition on a wall of 120 metres long. This wall is owned by the City of Langa and is situated in a really popular street.

Jace, a French graffiti artist, visited Langa to take part in this event. Not only did he lead graffiti workshops, he also produced some works within the walls of the association Langa Quarter and in some districts of Langa. He lead the panel of judges in charge of assessing the work of 15 artists taking part in the competition.

Elisabeth Barbier, Ambassador of France to South Africa, went to see him in Langa Quarter on Saturday 20 February 2016. She also took advantage of this visit to discover the association Langa Quarter which deals with social integration and fighting unemployment among young people

Jace was also in Cape Town for the Cape Town Art Fair.
