Ambassador Jacques Lapouge completes his term in South Africa
On Friday 18 January 2013 Ambassador Jacques Lapouge completed his term as French Ambassador to South Africa. He will return to Paris to take up a new position within the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During his 3 years in South Africa, Lapouge was fortunate to oversee an animated and substantial period in France-South Africa relations. In 2010 South Africa hosted the Fifa World Cup, though the Ambassador preferred to focus on the success of the tournament rather than the exploits of the French national team. Then, in 2011, South Africa again welcomed the world, this time to discuss Climate Change at COP17 in Durban.
In terms of the bilateral relationship between France and South Africa, 2012 was a very significant year, with the France South Africa Seasons 2012 & 2013 being launched and the French Season in South Africa taking place from July to November. This year the South African Season in France will be held and Ambassador Lapouge is looking forward to attending as many of the events as he can.
