European soccer tournament in Johannesburg [fr]

On Saturday 22 November 2014, an EU soccer tournament was organized by the Embassy of Italy for children from disadvantaged schools. European embassies were invited to sponsor a team from a disadvantaged school in Gauteng to take part in the event. The tournament was hosted at the Italian Club in Johannesburg.

Teams from 8 countries (Italy, Austria, France, Great Britain, Netherlands, Spain, Ireland, Portugal) played against each other during the day.

The French Embassy chose to be represented by children from the Rebonwe Primary School in Tembisa. The players were wearing the official French soccer shirt. The team played very well during the tournament, facing the opponent teams sponsored by the UK, Portugal and Italy.
The Irish team won the tournament’s final game.

The players were accompanied by some young photographers participating in the An Eye for An Eye project, who took some pictures during the day.
