Exhibition by artist Isabel Mertz in Pretoria [fr]
On 31 October 2014, the Association of Arts Pretoria opened the exhibition of South African artist Isabel Mertz, the winner of the 2011 Gerard Sekoto Award for the most promising artist and a merit prize at the Absa L’Atelier Art competition.
The artist is back to Pretoria, her birth city, after touring in South Africa and Lesotho. “The Problem of Crossing a Bridge” shows sculptures and prints made by the artist after a residence in Paris at the Cite Internationale des Arts.
The opening night was led by Pieter van Heerden, director of the Association of Arts Pretoria, Charlotte Montel, First Counselor at the Embassy of France in South Africa, and Carla Crafford, photographer and lecturer at the University of Pretoria.
This exhibition is held in partnership with the French cultural network of Alliances Françaises in Southern Africa, Absa, the French Institute of South Africa, the South African National Association for the Visual Arts (SANAVA) and the Embassy of France in South Africa.
The exhibition is available until 19 November 2014 at the Association of Arts Pretoria
