The “Fete de la Musique” (music festival) started in France in 1982, and takes place on the 21st of June every year, as it is the first day of summer. The Fête de la Musique, also known as Make Music Day or World Music Day, is an annual music celebration, the first day of summer in many cities around the world. The festival is celebrated in more than 120 countries in various cities.
People who play music as a hobby are invited to play in the streets, offering free entertainment to everyone. This event was set up with two main goals: firstly, from a cultural point of view, it was created to allow people to discover new styles of music and hidden talents. Secondly, this is a free community event: with the goal of social and urban development of the neighbourhood through the arts. “La Fete de la Musique” allows people from different social classes, different age groups and different points of interest to meet and learn from each other. Specifically, this event is made to improve the relationship between a wide group of people, allowing them to learn from each other.
