French Day at Vaal University of Technology [fr]
The second French Day of Vaal University of Technology (VUT), which took place on the Vandebijlpark campus on the 19th of March 2014, is deemed a great success.
The Vice Chancellor of VUT, Prof.Moutlana, opened the day together with the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof H.A. Louw and the French Scientific Attaché, Dr Pierre Lemonde. The welcoming session was accompanied by the extraordinary student choir of VUT, who performed the French and South African national anthem and excerpts from Bizet’s opera Carmen.
The introductive speeches were followed by a rich programme, set up by the VUT staff, including various scientific presentations, a fashion show, VUT’s first “Top Chef” contest, various exhibitions, a concert and gala dinner. Mr. Alexandre Sebastiani, director of the F’SASEC, contributed strongly to the organization of the day and invited the car manufacturer Renault and Schneider Electric to exhibit on the campus.
A highlight of the day was the outstanding live concert by Franco Na Biso, organized by the French Institute in South Africa (IFAS) and acclaimed by an enthusiastic audience of some 1500 students.
