French Development Agency 20th anniversary in SA [fr]

On March 24 2015, the French Development Agency (AFD) celebrated their 20th anniversary in South Africa.

The celebration took place at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg and was attend by Executive Mayor of Johannesburg Parks Tau and Deputy Mayor of Paris Patrick Klugman. Ambassador Barbier also attended.

The event was opened with a panel discussion (chaired by freelance journalist Liesl Louw-Vaudran) on “Social impact or climate-smart development: do cities have to choose?". Other speakers included Philip Harrison, South African Research Chair in Development Planning and Modeling at the University of the Witwatersrand, Telly Chauke, Environment and climate change specialist at the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) and Jean-Pierre Marcelli, Africa Director at the Agence Française de Développement in Paris.

Ambassador Barbier opened a photography exhibition entitled “Looking back, moving forward” by Cyril Le Tourneur, a well-known French reporter showcasing 20 years of the AFD/South African partnership.
