The French Embassy marks Mandela Day

On July 18 2013, the world celebrated Nelson Mandela International Day. Mandela Day is an annual international day of humanitarian action in celebration of Mr Mandela’s life and legacy. Mandela Day has been officially adopted by the United Nations as “Nelson Mandela International Day”.

The Mandela Day campaign message is simple : Mr Mandela gave 67 years of his life fighting for the rights of humanity. All we are asking is that everyone gives 67 minutes of their time, whether it’s supporting your chosen charity or serving your local community.

To celebrate this day, the French Embassy organised a collection for the Childwelfare organisation.

The Embassy staff spent a few hours at Childwelfare centre in Mamelodi (http://www.childwelfare.co.za/mamelodi.html) on Thursday the 18th of July while the staff from the French Institute, Ubifrance and AFD based in Johannesburg spent a few hours at Tembalethu life skills centre (http://www.jhbchildwelfare.org.za/index.php/centres) –a project of Childwelfare in Johannesburg.
