French authors at the Open Book Festival in Cape Town [fr]

Two authors, Alain Mabanckou and Marc Boutavant, invited by the French Institute of South Africa, took part in the 5th edition of the Open Book Festival from 9 to 13 September 2015 in Cape Town. The two francophone authors were invited alongside over 100 international and local writers and illustrators.

Alain Mabanckou (France/DRC) is perhaps best known locally for the brilliant if disturbing African Psycho. He has been longlisted for the 2015 Man Booker International for Letter to Jimmy, an ode to James Baldwin and an effort to place Baldwin’s life in context within the greater African diaspora.

Marc Boutavant (France) is the award-winning author and illustrator of the bestselling Around the World with Mouk and Ariol series. In addition to his own work he has collaborated on several children’s books, including Never Tickle a Tiger.

Ambassador of France to South Africa HE Elisabeth Barbier attended the festival and met with the two authors.
