French stall at Diplomatic Fair was a great success
The Diplomatic Fair organized by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) was held in Pretoria, on the lawns of the Union Buildings, on Saturday 26th October 2013. All day long, visitors were invited to discover the many countries present. Food specialties, music, dance, ritual ceremonies, traditional clothing ; the stalls offered a wide variety of information and entertainment.
The French stall received many visitors requiring information for a future trip to France or keen to learn French in Pretoria. The main attraction, a Photobooth, was definitely a key to make this day a success : all the visitors came home with a souvenir from Paris, their picture taken in front of the Eiffel Tower ! While people waited for their turn in the booth they could relax at the Brasserie de Paris and taste some fine French cuisine.
Ambassador Barbier took a tour of the Fun Fair with the judging panel and was very pleased by the level of interest in the French stand.
The Embassy of France, in partnership with the Accor Group, the Alliance Française of Pretoria, the French Institute, Brasserie de Paris and Atout France (French tourism agency), also offered a competition throughout the day. The lucky draw held by the Ambassador determined the winners for the 10 prizes given away : free week-ends in Accor hotels, French lessons, bottles of champagne and wine, chocolates and tickets to upcoming IFAS shows. They will be contacted in the coming days.
During the gala dinner offered to the ambassadors, DIRCO awarded Gabon first prize for Best overall stall.
