Good France 2016 [fr]
On March 21 2016, 8 restaurants participated in the event in order to celebrate French gastronomy:
- Gauteng: Brasserie de Paris(Pretoria), 3SIXTY° Liquid Lounge (Monte Casino), Winehouse Restaurant (Jhb) and Café La Bonheur (Hartebeespoortdam)
- Western Cape: Nadege Cuisine (Noordhoek) and 6 Spin Street (Cape Town)
- KwaZulu-Natal: Fusion Restaurants and Fusion French Café (Durban, as part as the Franco Fête event)
Each restaurant served special menus combining French recipes with local products.
The French Embassy celebrated Good France 2016 with a VIP reception held at the French Residence in Pretoria. The reception was attended by select guests and a guest of honour: Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen living in Nice. He is the first South African to win a Michelin Star for his restaurant JAN.
During her speech, Ambassador Barbier said: "Tonight we take you on a culinary adventure through France to discover flavours and traditional dishes from various French regions".

From Île de France were prepared by three students from three South African culinary schools: the Prue Leith Chefs Academy, the JHB Culinary & Pastry School and The Capital Hotel School & Training Academy represented by: MICHELLE OBERHOLSTER (22 years old - Prue Leith Chefs Academy), ANEESAH SHAIKJEE (25 years old - JHB Culinary & Pastry School) and MAXINE BASTOS (19 years old -
The Capital Hotel School).
Indeed, a “Dessert Competition” was organised on the occasion of the Good France reception. MICHELLE OBERHOLSTER won the competition with her delicious Macaroon.
Michelle and her school won a three-day culinary session with Chef André Ahiba who has been running the Residence of France’s kitchen since 2008 and was trained at the prestigious Quai d’Orsay.
