The Human Rights Week was held at the French Alliance in Pretoria from 1 to 10 December 2014.

Poetry Recital Evening of Contemporary South African Poets

Young people from different organisations were invited to visit the exhibition and to meet the artist to discuss human rights issues that they are facing: Aids Consortium (1st of December), South African Disability Agency (8th of December) and Child Welfare Tshwane (9th of December).

Human Rights Week is organized with the support of the French Embassy and the Alliance Française of Pretoria.

About the artist

Born in France in 1964, Philippe Bousquet is a qualified architect who transitioned into the world of art and design in 1996,. Affiliated to the Southern Guild, he has exhibited with them at the Johannesburg Art Fair,the Everhard Read Gallery, the Foundry in Cape Town, the MOAD Johannesburg and Design Days Dubai. He has shown his work at the Design Indaba, the FWD fair, the 157 Gallery and the Bell Roberts Gallery (JHB Art Fair, the Opening Exhibition and the “Tales of the Mantle Piece” exhibition. He has also exhibited in France in different galleries and his work is included in many private collections around the world.

Philippe began his career as an artist working with precious materials. After moving to South Africa in 2004, he became increasingly aware of the effects of mining on people, communities and the environment. He began to experiment with found objects, scrap metal and waste materials. He is a multimedia artist communicating through painting, sculpture, objects, photography, digital work and writing, he believes in the multidisciplinary work of the artist to convey meaningful messages.
