Inauguration of L’Oréal’s Research and Innovation Center
On Thursday 21 July 2016, L’Oréal South Africa opened its brand new Research and Innovation Center in Johannesburg.
Serge Boscher, Head of the Regional Economic service for Southern Africa, attended the inauguration. Also present were Laurent Attal, L’Oréal Executive Vice-President of Research and Innovation, Alexandre Popoff, Executive Vice-President Eastern Europe and Africa, Middle East, Sandeep Rai, L’Oréal South Africa country manager, Dr Mjwara, Director General of the South African Department of Science and Technology and Claudy Steyn, Chief Director, Industrial Development Policy Division of the South African Department of Trade and Industry.
The main objective of this Research and Innovation Center is to accelerate product development for Sub-Saharan Africa. Indeed, this center will help studying African hair and skin specificities as well as the beauty routine and expectations of Sub-Saharan consumers. Different teams are working in this center: product development, evaluation and advanced research teams.
Serge Boscher: "This present R&D center will be dedicated to the African market, especially for the ethnic hair care. It’s now very important for the R&D activities to be closer to the market and to take into account its specificities, particularly when it appears so promising"
