Launch of Kusmi Tea in South Africa [fr]
After Orientis Gourmet bought the brand Kusmikov (founded in Saint-Petersbourg in 1867) in 2003, Kusmi Tea rapidly became a household name for tea lovers.
Specialising in high-end tea, Kusmi Tea is a symbol of French innovation and modernity, offering both classic teas as well as unique products for modern life’s needs (anti-stress, cleansing teas etc.).
Kusmi Tea is sold in France in specialist stores and delicatessens (Galleries Lafayette, le Bon Marché, Monoprix, Lafayette Gourmet, etc) and has recently met great success online, with loyal clients all over the world. Around 30 stores have been opened in France, the USA, Canada and Germany.
On 25 September 2014, Kusmi Tea was launched in South Africa in partnership with the distributor The Tea Merchant, with which the brand shares the same passion for exceptional teas.
The launch was held at The Tea Merchant store in Melrose Arch (Johannesburg) and was hosted by M. Philip Tobianski, Spokesperson for Kusmi Tea, in presence of H.E. Elisabeth Barbier, Ambassador of France, and M. Jacques Torregrossa, head of Ubifrance.
Extract from the Ambassador’s allocution :
"We can rightly say that South Africans as French people love good wines but it is not the only beverage that brings us together. We also share the pleasure of drinking tea. The introduction of the iconic French brand of tea KUSMI TEA into the South African market reflects on shared enjoyment as well as the relationship between France and South Africa, going as far as the Huguenots.
It is not about selling a product but sharing passion and pleasure. It is this philosophy that brings The Tea Merchant and Kusmi Tea together."
