The 1,2 millions registered voters were asked to vote for the 120 members of the Lesotho National Assembly. The organization of the elections, 2 years ahead of schedule, was decided as part of the road map negotiated between the ruling coalition parties under the patronage of Southern African Development Cooperation (SADC). Tensions between the two main ruling coalition parties, Prime Minister Thabane’s All Basotho Convention (ABC) and Vice-Prime Minister Mestsing’s Lesotho Congress for Democracy, have been dominating the country’s political life for years.
