Personal appearance no longer required for visa applicants who have already obtained a VIS visa [fr]

Applicants who obtained a Schengen visa with biometrical data (digital prints and photography) no longer require giving their biometrical data again if:

  • They have a copy of their previous Schengen visa, with the mention “VIS” on it;
  • The biometrical data was obtained less than 5 years ago (more specifically during the last 59 months).

In these conditions, personal appearance is not required to file a new visa application.

A third party is authorized to file the application, which will have to include a letter of assignment accordingly signed by the visa applicant.

Visa applicants should note that their application will be denied if the above conditions are not respected.

The Consulate of France in Johannesburg reserves the right to ask for new fingerprinting if the data previously gathered were unusable.
