Reception to celebrate the opening of the Parliament [fr]

On Monday 17 February 2014, the Ambassador of France, Mrs Elisabeth Barbier, hosted a cocktail reception at the Residence of France in Cape Town.

Known as an annual rendez-vous, Members of Parliament, representatives of the Western Cape Province and of the City of Cape Town, Ambassadors, as well as members of the business community, clergy, civil society, academia and artists were invited.

In her welcome speech, the ambassador paid tribute to Nelson Mandela and recalled the success of the reciprocal France-South Africa seasons in 2012 and 2013. She also highlighted the challenges of the coming months (climate change, trade, education).
The ambassador welcomed the growth of the French community in the Western Cape Province, which doubled in the last ten years, and indicated that a new French school campus will be opened in Sea Point in September 2014.
