Recruitment: Group leader in Tuberculosis and other Bacterial Respiratory Infections

The Institute of Pharmacology and structural Biology (IPBS) is a leading research center of the CNRS and the University of Toulouse (France), dedicated to academic research in the fields of cancer and infectious diseases biology, structural biology and biophysics, with a strong focus on the discovery, characterization and validation of novel important pathways and molecular targets in the fields of cancer and tuberculosis.

Currently, the IPBS seek to recruit a new junior group leader with a strong track record in the field of tuberculosis (TB) or other bacterial respiratory infections to join their faculty composed of over 250 researchers and support staff, including more than 60 national and international postdoctoral fellows and PhD students.

The selected candidate is expected to develop a highly competitive research program in the field of TB or other bacterial respiratory infections, with a strong focus on the biology of the pathogen(s). Topics related to mechanisms underlying bacterial persistence, drug resistance or tolerance within the host, as well as drug discovery, will be favored.

The successful candidate will be provided with laboratory and office space for 5-8 people, technical support for 2 years, a starting package for basic equipment and consumables, as well as free access to the Institute’s state-of-the-art core facilities that include but are not restricted to: whole-body and intravital multiphoton microscopy, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry and cell sorting, single particle tracking and tethered particle motion analysis, and animal facilities. In particular, the Institute count with BSL2 and BSL3 laboratories and animal facilities fully equipped with flow cytometry and cell sorting systems, a spinning disk confocal microscope, and a multiphoton microscope, allowing the manipulation of single or multiple pathogens.

In addition, the successful candidate will receive strong support from the Institute to obtain regional and national grants, as well as opportunities for tenured positions at CNRS, INSERM or the University of Toulouse.

Junior candidates should hold a PhD in a relevant field, and have post-doctoral training. With an excellent academic and publication record, the successful candidate will be well underway in establishing him/herself as an internationally recognized expert in his/her field. Advanced (senior) group leaders will also be considered in the context of the present call. The University of Toulouse and the Institute value diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity. The Institute has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in France. Toulouse is at the heart of the South-West Region of France, with a very large and dynamic community of students and scientists, several international-level research and clinical centers, and has been ranked among the first cities in France for its quality of life.

Please email (in English) a cover letter plus your CV (including a publication list), names and addresses of 3 referees and a summary of current and future research interests (3 pages max) to: Olivier Neyrolles (recruit@ipbs.fr). Please submit one single PDF file, other formats will not be considered.
