The SAFe Think bursary programme was launched by the Embassy of France in South Africa in 2010 with the aim of funding exceptional students wishing to undertake a Master’s degree at a French university, in all fields of human and social sciences.

The programme also offers fellowships for South African researchers working with our partner think tanks, who would like to conduct a joint project with a research institute based in France.

SAFe Think is aimed at both South African students and Senior Researchers:

The Master Programme funds outstanding students wishing to undertake a Master’s degree at a French Higher Education Institution. Between 2010 and 2014, 20 South African students were given the unique opportunity to obtain an internationally recognised Master’s degree in France. Our bursaries cover a roundtrip air flight ticket, Schengen visa fees, tuition fees, living costs, and full medical and social insurance. They are allocated for the duration of a French academic year, i.e. from September 2015 to June 2016.

The Research Programme allows South African PhD students and researchers to undertake a joint research project in France (up to 10 weeks). Through its fellowship scheme, 4 South African senior researchers conducted joint projects with French research institutes between 2010 and 2014.
