Second World War veterans celebrated

Ambassador of France to South Africa, HE Elisabeth Barbier, will bestow the signet of Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur (or Knighthood in the Legion of Honour) on two veterans of the Second World War - Captain John Andrew Hilton and Staff Sergeant Alexander McKenzie Reith.

Members of the media are invited to attend.

Date: Monday, 7 December 2015
Time: 5pm
Venue: Residence of France, 807 George Avenue, Arcadia, Pretoria.

This ceremony comes after the President of the French Republic François Hollande decided, on the 70th anniversary of D-Day in June 2014, to honour foreign veterans of the Second World War.

Hilton and Reith, both British nationals living in South Africa, will be awarded for their participation in the Second World War.
