Visit of Ambassador Barbier to Reunion Island [fr]

From 2 to 6 June 2014, H.E. Ambassador Barbier visited Reunion Island.

During her stay, she met with several key actors of the cooperation existing between South Africa and the island, in various sectors such as scientific, academic or cultural cooperation, tourism, health, research and innovation.

Thus, the Ambassador visited R-canne (a research centre on sugar cane) and CYROI (a research and innovation platform on biotechnologies). She also went to the headquarters of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands (TAAF) where she and research institute agents based in Reunion Island and South Africa (IRD, IFREMER) discussed about further projects. Moreover, she met with several representatives from the Régional and General councils, the Reunion Island tourism agency as well as La Possesion’s city mayor.

All these meetings were the opportunity to take stock of the existing cooperation between South African and the island, and to prospect for future developments.
