Visit of Solaire Direct [fr]
Solaire Direct, present in South Africa since 2009, won the 2nd round the offer of the government program Independent Power Producer in the management of two projects of 10 MW each (Aurora and Vredendal), located in the Western Cape. The first was commissioned in late June, while the second will be in the next few weeks. The group participated in round 4, submitted two bids and now awaits the response of the Department of Energy.
The group has a solar panel manufacturing facility in Cape Town, which employs 150 people. It has an annual production capacity of 300,000 panels produced, of which 95% is currently exported to Europe (Germany and United Kingdom).
During the second visit of Ambassador Barbier to this unit on march the 17th, the changes since her last visit in 2013, were presented. Solaire Direct has, since 2013, doubled its production capacity and its workforce.
