On 19 February 2015, H.E. Ambassador Barbier and Xavier d’Argoeuves, Consul of France in Cape Town, visited Orange Marine’s cable ship "Léon Thévenin".

Orange Marine, a subsidiary of Orange Group, is specialized in the field of submarine telecommunications from the initial design and engineering, to installation of intercontinental and regional links, and maintenance of existing cables.
The "Léon Thévenin" is a cable ship based in Cape Town since 2001 with the mission to fix submarines cables in an area covering subsaharian coasts.

The submarine cables have been used by telecom companies since the mid‐19th century. The submarine cable network around Africa is a vital factor for delivering the continent the solutions to accommodate the increase in data transmission, internet traffic, and phone communications.
